The Guardian ladder: a readiness test, not a boss list

Guardians scale with the map. Your build has to scale with them without becoming a glass cannon. This is the audit we would run before every band climb, using only confirmed systems and observable HUD data.

The five-point audit

Run this before you climb
CheckPass conditionIf it fails
DamageYou can kill a rare without using your full burstStay one band down and upgrade the weapon
SurvivalYou survive one full combo with a flaskAdd a defensive layer before adding damage
MovementYou can cross the arena without walking through the bossFix the movement skill first
SustainYour mana/life holds for a three-minute fightCut a support or add recovery
ClarityYou can name the boss’s dangerous phaseRun the fight once more before climbing

Phase literacy

A phase is a new question. The first phase asks “can you do damage?”. The second asks “can you do damage while the arena changes?”. The third usually asks “can you survive the thing you have been ignoring?”. If you cannot answer the previous question, the next phase will feel unfair.

  • Learn the first phase until it is boring.
  • Learn the transition tell before you try to skip it.
  • Do not greed a damage window you have not tested.
  • If a phase adds adds, decide whether to clear or ignore them before the pull.

Run economics

A Guardian attempt costs time, flasks, sometimes a life and sometimes a run. If the attempt has a low chance of success, the expected value is negative even if the loot table is good. The disciplined play is to farm the previous band until the attempt is boring.

Record the fight

Use the run log to note the band, the modifier, the phase that killed you and the skill that did the damage. After five attempts you will see a pattern: a missing resistance, a slow movement skill, a burst window you keep mistiming. That pattern is the real boss.

  • Band and Rupture level.
  • Modifier overlap that mattered.
  • Phase number and attack name (or a description).
  • Your life/mana at the moment of death.
  • One change to test next time.

When to climb

Climb when the current band is no longer teaching you anything. Not when you are bored, and not when a video makes the next band look easy. A band that is boring is a band you have solved; a band that is frustrating is a band you have not.

Frequently asked questions

How do Guardians scale in Broken Oath?
They grow deadlier as you climb the Rupture Map and gain new attacks and phases. The exact scaling formula is unpublished.
Is there a Guardian tier list?
No. No Guardian names or mechanics have been published, so a tier list would be fabricated.
Should I fight the Guardian every run?
Unknown whether Guardians are optional. The HUD shows an objective and a seal; the exact requirement is unconfirmed.
What is the best band to farm Guardians?
The highest band you can clear with one death or fewer. That will be different for every build.
