Edda Ironhand: the smith at the Forge
Edda Ironhand is the only named character in Broken Oath’s public material. She runs the Forge. That is a small fact with a lot of weight: in a game about a broken oath, the smith is the one who repairs what the world uses.
Her role
In gameplay terms, Edda is the crafting interface with a name and a voice. In story terms, she is the person who turns rune stones and materials into equipment. That makes her the most important NPC in a loot-driven game, whether or not the plot gives her a questline.
- Confirmed: she is at the Forge; you craft gear with her; the Forge uses rune stones and recipes.
- Unknown: where the Forge is, whether she travels, whether she has a questline, whether she comments on the story.
- Unknown: her relationship to the broken oath, the dwarves, or the player.
The name
“Edda” is an Old Norse word for a collection of poetic or mythological knowledge; “Ironhand” is a smith’s epithet. The combination reads as a dwarf who keeps the recipes — a keeper of craft knowledge rather than a generic merchant. That is an analysis of the name, not a developer statement.
What to check in game
- Does Edda’s dialogue change after each rune stone?
- Does she comment on the Ruptures or the oath?
- Is the Forge in a hub, a camp or a Rupture?
- Does she sell anything, or only craft?
- Does she have a reputation or recipe-discovery track?
