Samurai — the precision blade
The Samurai is the class with the least official information and the most obvious fantasy: a katana, light armour and a stance that promises speed. The store confirms the class and its own weapon set. Everything else is a question.
What the official art shows
The lineup shows a Samurai in black and red armour with a katana held low, hair tied back and a light, forward-leaning stance. Compared with the Warrior, the silhouette is narrower and the weapon is shorter — a visual argument for speed over reach.
The likely game plan
A katana class in an ARPG usually lives on three axes: attack speed, precision (crit or armour penetration) and a counter/parry mechanic. The class’s problem is survivability if it has to stand in the pack. Its advantage is that fast attacks scale well with on-hit supports and elemental conversion — the same system the store uses for Cyclone and Ember Bolts.
- Clear: fast multi-hit combos or a dash that cuts. Watch for a skill that moves you through the pack.
- Single target: a focused slash or a counter. Precision classes usually have the highest boss ceiling and the lowest margin for error.
- Defence: evasion, parry, or a stance that trades damage for mitigation. The two-flask HUD suggests a active defensive layer.
- Bossing: the key question is whether the class can keep attacking during a Guardian phase.
What to test first
- Does the katana have a combo chain, or is every attack a single swing?
- Is there a parry or counter, and does it work on bosses?
- How long is the attack animation compared with the Warrior’s?
- Does the class get a dash before the first Guardian?
- Do on-hit supports trigger on every hit, or only once per skill?
The build shape to aim for
-
One fast main skill
Speed is the class’s assumed advantage. Pick the skill that lets you keep moving.
-
One counter or guard
If the kit has a parry, learn it on trash before a Guardian. If it does not, build a defensive layer deliberately.
-
One on-hit plan
Fast hits plus on-hit supports is the obvious synergy. Confirm the support’s internal cooldown before committing.
-
One ranged answer
A dash or a thrown blade for packs that refuse to come close. Melee classes need a plan for ranged enemies.
Playtest report: Samurai Cyclone
Two useful signals: the Samurai can apparently use Cyclone, and build sharing exists in code form. Neither is a confirmed class skill list. The tier claim is especially fragile because the scale was renumbered in the same week.
If Cyclone is available to both Warrior and Samurai, the class choice will come down to starting tree position and weapon scaling, not the skill itself. That is a much healthier design question than a class-locked skill.
What would change this page
A skill list, a gameplay clip, or any official mention of a stance/parry system. Until then, the Samurai is a confirmed class with an unconfirmed kit. Do not let a thumbnail convince you otherwise.
